Almost every story I've seen/read originating from China, the MC is missing one or both parents. The ones where the MC comes from a "whole family" its usually some political mess that destroys the family clan or whatever. The few that the MC grew up in a "whole home" usually the mother is some trophy wife or concubine and is barely even present in the story. But the stories that the MC has a complete family are very few and far between.
Re-uniting them this soon likely means something bad is about to happen. One of the parents(likely the dad) is about to sacrifice himself for the greater good, for love and family.
